Imagine a biking or hiking day trip
and stopping at a fine French bakery and lingering over fresh
croissant or delicious dessert and coffee. Now imagine
doing that in Scarborough.
The 3-kilometre West Scarborough
Rail Trail is the missing link in what could be a 25-kilometre
off-street active transportation corridor and ribbon of
recreational greenspace from Lake Ontario at the mouth of the
Don River to Rouge National Urban Park via the Meadoway.
This grand vision that would connect
neighbourhoods, all Scarborough wards and the entire City of
Toronto is in jeopardy of being cancelled by TTC plans to
create a “pocket track” at Warden Subway Station. The TTC
plans to park two empty trains overnight on the historic GECO
Bomb Girls bridge and abandoned rail corridor that is essential
to the creation of the West Scarborough Rail Trail.
