West Scarborough Rail Trail Jane's Walk and Jane's Ride - PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 2026
Community Walk & Ride Event
Highlights Vision for West Scarborough Rail Trail
Scarborough, ON — On Sunday, May 3, 2026, community members will come
together for a unique Jane’s Walk and Ride event to explore and support
the proposed West Scarborough Rail Trail (WSRT)—a long-envisioned
project that could transform active transportation and green space connectivity
across Scarborough.
Hosted at Warden Hilltop Community
Centre, the event invites participants to walk or cycle through the
proposed trail corridor, with multiple route options designed to
accommodate all ages and experience levels. Whether on foot or by bike,
attendees will have the opportunity to experience the landscape, learn about
the trail’s history, and engage with others who share an interest in the future
of the community.
First proposed over 50 years ago and
supported through various city planning initiatives, the West Scarborough Rail
Trail would connect key natural and urban spaces—from Warden Subway Station
to Kennedy Subway Station—and serve as a critical link in a broader 25-kilometre
trail network connecting Lake Ontario to Rouge National Urban Park.
The event also comes at a pivotal moment.
The future of the trail is currently uncertain due to proposed transit
infrastructure developments that could impact key portions of the corridor,
including the historic GECO “Bomb Girls” bridge. Organizers hope the event will
raise awareness and foster community dialogue around preserving and advancing
the trail.
“This is an opportunity for residents to
come together, explore their neighbourhood in a new way, and learn about a
project that has the potential to benefit generations to come,” said event
organizers.
Participants can choose from a variety of guided
walks and group rides, each tailored to different comfort levels, making
the event accessible and welcoming to all.

About the organizers: The Scarborough
Junction Community is a grassroots, resident-led group that advocates for
responsible development and stronger local infrastructure in the Scarborough
Junction area. The group has played a key organizing and advocacy role for the
West Scarborough Rail Trail. They have helped elevate the trail as a priority
community project by promoting its inclusion in planning discussions,
organizing public meetings and events, and advocating for parkland dedication
along the corridor. Their work highlights the WSRT as a critical green
connection—linking neighbourhoods, transit, and larger trail systems—while also
mobilizing community awareness and support at a time when the project faces
competing development pressures.
