FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 2026
Fun Free
Bike Festival for West Scarborough Rail Trail!
Scarborough,
ON — On Saturday
June 13, community members will come together for a Free Fun Family
Bike Festival with Bike Rodeo, Bike Decorating, Bike Parade, Bike Tune Up and Repair,
Bike Safety and Helmet Fitting.
We invite the entire community to dust off their bikes,
trikes and wheeled people powered vehicles and attend this event held at Warden
Hilltop Community Centre.
Join the Scarborough Junction Community, West Scarborough
Rail Trail Committee, Scarborough Cycles, East Toronto Cyclists, Toronto
Climate Action and officers from 41 Division to celebrate cycling, the West
Scarborough Rail Trail and Toronto Bike Month!
First
proposed over 50 years ago and supported through various city planning
initiatives, the West Scarborough Rail Trail would connect key natural and
urban spaces—from Warden Subway Station to Kennedy Subway Station—and
serve as a critical link in a broader 25-kilometre trail network connecting
Lake Ontario to Rouge National Urban Park.
The event
also comes at a pivotal moment. The future of the West Scarborough Rail Trail
is currently uncertain due to proposed transit infrastructure developments that
could impact key portions of the corridor, including the historic GECO “Bomb
Girls” bridge. Organizers hope the event will raise awareness and foster
community dialogue around preserving and advancing the trail.
“This is an
opportunity for residents to come together, tune up their bikes, and have some
fun cycling in support of a project that has the potential to benefit
generations to come,” said event organizers.

About the organizers: The Scarborough Junction Community is a grassroots, resident-led group that advocates for responsible development and stronger local infrastructure in the Scarborough Junction area. The group has played a key organizing and advocacy role for the West Scarborough Rail Trail. They have helped elevate the trail as a priority community project by promoting its inclusion in planning discussions, organizing public meetings and events, and advocating for parkland dedication along the corridor. Their work highlights the WSRT as a critical green connection—linking neighbourhoods, transit, and larger trail systems—while also mobilizing community awareness and support at a time when the project faces competing development pressures.
